Why selling in every email is killing your social media business

“Sell every day in every single email.”

If you're growing your list with social media content, this advice is broken.

Let me explain why…

This advice is pushed by the world’s greatest email marketers for good reason.

Emails are free to send, so if you want to make maximum money...

Sell your offer in emails everyday right? Right??

Well...

This works fine if you don't just use social media to grow your list, i.e. paid ads, list swaps, SEO blogs, etc.

Over time...

Everyone who doesn’t want to buy will unsubscribe and you’ll have a list of your most loyal customers. GREAT!

So why is this advice broken in 2024?

Because social media has changed the game.

All social media algos work in a similar way:

  1. Content is posted
  2. Algo looks at how many watch content and for how long
  3. If many watch, and watch for long, content gets pushed further

So if you want viral content, you do two things:

  1. Maximise retention
  2. Maximise how many people view content

Simple.

In the past “non-buyers” - people who don’t buy your stuff - were fairly useless.

If they don't buy, why have them on your list?

But today...

Non-buyers are just as important as buyers.

I KNOW! I said it. Crazy. Here's why...

It’s the non-buying freebie seekers who watch all your FREE social media content.

Which means...

Your email list can be used to push freebie-seeking non-buying subscribers to view your new content, telling the algo to push your content further, to bring in more views, more subs and you guessed it.... more customers.

Now, there’s no “right or wrong” with which approach you choose.

But if you’re only using social media to grow your list, selling every day in every email will hurt your growth.

Have a cracking week,

Tatsuki

Yesterday I was lucky enough to call a paid ads guy at a Fortune 100 company. His small team spends $100,000,000+ a year on ads. He isn't legally allowed to talk with me about all this stuff, so he stayed anonymous. A follower recently asked me: “How do I get client experience as a complete beginner.” I was a complete beginner last year AND have just taken over paid ad campaigns for a client as a complete beginner. So I know I have the answer you’re looking for. The secret lies in a principle taught to me in a small private masterclass with Ben Settle, the King of email of marketing. I call it: “Turn trash, into cash.” Let me explain… I’m a paid ads noob. I have just as much experience pole dancing as I...

One of my clients is an entrepreneur who built his first biz to $100,000,000+. He’s building a community of 100+ creators who all have 50K to 6M followers. My job is to strategise marketing campaigns and write emails for those creators. The unusual part of this deal is… I didn’t try to get it. I sent no cold DMs. No cold emails. No Upwork application. It just landed in my inbox. So today, I want to give you the formula for closing large wealthy inbound clients. Let's start with the first...
